Calling all crocheters and knitters! Can you help us make & donate 80 facecloths for SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group care packs next month? 🩵 We know you can! Distributed through Tasmanian hospitals and cancer centres, the care packs may bring a little comfort to patients who have just received news that turned their life upside down.
How can you help?
Crochet a facecloth (or two) by 15 May 2025 and deliver them to Lily & Dot at 150 Elizabeth St Hobart. This is a great beginner project! The finished item measures just 20cm square. A simple crochet pattern follows. For knitters, please use moss stitch or garter stitch to create your 20cm square cloths. Thank you!

UK terms
- 4.5mm hook
- 8ply Spotlight brand 4 Seasons Flinders 100% cotton yarn in ‘Lagoon’ shade (teal)
Attach yarn to hook, leaving a 10cm tail to sew in later.
Chain 35 plus one (the last stitch is your turning chain)
Double crochet (DC – single crochet or SC in US terms) into 2nd chain from hook. Half-treble (HTR – half double or HDC in US terms) into next chain. Alternate the DC / HTR pattern until the last chain.
Chain 1 (your turning chain), turn your work, DC into 2nd chain from hook. HTR into next chain. Repeat the alternating DC / HTR pattern until the last chain. You are now repeating DC / HTR into the top of the alternate stitch from the previous row (ie. the DC is worked into the top of the HTR, and vice versa), to create a textured pattern.
Continue until your work is approx 20cm square (approx 32 rows, depending on your tension). Sew in ends.
